Grammar alert at 1:52 am

The other night I woke up at 1:52 am thinking, "OMG! I sent Ms. English Teacher an email thanking her for her 'patients and understanding' regarding a situation." Yes, I swear to goddess, I was wide awake at 1:52 am and that was the first thought in my head.

I was so upset that I might've sent my fellow colleague, and an English teacher at the middle school, an email using the wrong version of 'patience' that I got OUT of BED and went to check my sent box to see if I really, really did that. I didn't. What I did say was: "Thanks for being patient with me; I'll do my best."

Yes, get the visual. It's 1:52 am and I left my cold bed to sit huddled in front of the computer to check this. I looked at my "sent" box to verify. Then I sat there trying to remember if that was still correct or not, so I went so far as to check on dictionary.com.

The things that keep me awake at night.............

I need a life,
Maggie

I can think of a lot better things that would be worth being kept awake in the middle of the night, but alas...nada!
But as a fellow grammarian, I know how those little things can stick in the brain and stay there.
I spent 7 years teaching with the best grammar teacher alive, and now that she's retired, I find myself being extremely careful with my grammar when we correspond via email or snail mail. That's a sign that we were both taught by the best!

A true English teacher! I lie awake with much less noble thoughts: If only that girl hadn't fallen off the beam. If only the other one had stayed in bounds. If only the other one had stayed home. Obsession, thy name is Bragger.

JE- I'm going to blame DW for her teaching methods that kept me awake. And she would take that as a compliment, I'm sure...

P- hey, now, I'm not as think as you stoned I am!

Bragger- obsessions can be good... I think. Or so I tell myself.

Are you sure you're not an English teacher too? Sounds like it's in the blood. (and yes, I am totally laughing at you)

Tense T- Well, I've taught English for the last ten years... I'm a special ed. aide this year since I moved back here to Civilization and can't find a job. It must be in the blood... and here I thought insanity would skip a generation; guess not. Because only an insane person would wake up worrying about grammar!
