Think Kit Day 25: Merry Christmas

Think Kit: Share a photo from your year that highlights giving, thankfulness, traditions, or finding peace.

My son, my niece, and my 2 nephews at our traditional family Christmas gathering. I'm thankful for them, and the hope I have for the future lies with them which gives me peace. They're my family and I give thanks for them.

*I didn't actually write this post today but have been back logging post to catch up on the topics. I'm going to finish this project no matter what!

The Divine Ms K is da-voon on...

... her third birthday!!! Today she's 3, and it seems like time's flown. Instead of thinking of Mac's evil ways, this is a much better way to think of today, full of little girl happiness, butterfiles, rainbows, and sunshine!

Happy Birthday, baby girl!

A bride, a baptism and a birthday

I photographed a wedding yesterday and it was one of the coolest weddings ever. Each table at the reception was named after a martini and the table center pieces were giant martini classes filled with red roses and floating candles. There was a martini luge, too. (This is a huge ice sculpture in the shape of a martini glass and the martini is mixed and then poured through the sculpture to chill it and into a glass at the bottom!) Of course the bride was beautiful; her shoes were 4 inch heels, in red, with a satin ribbon running over the top- I want want want! The ceremony was held in a beautiful cathedral in the Chicago area. The food was awesome. We ate all day long. I usually never eat the day of a wedding so I had my typical cup off morning java. We shot the wedding and then I rode in the Hummer limo with the wedding party to a park to take pictures; we all had a picnic at the park (cookies, bottled H20, turkey sandwiches, pretzels). Then we all went back to the hotel and there was a hospitality suite with a free (open) bar and tons of food (lobster sandwiches, fruit plates, cookies, shrimp, hummus, chips, sub sandwiches). I took pictures and was encouraged to eat. Then we had a cocktail hour. Where we took pictures and ate (brushetta, fried wantons, shrimps with bacon, something with artichoke). Then there was dinner at the reception, where I took pictures and ate! (tomato bisque soup, salad, rolls, mango sorbet to cleanse the palate, fillet steak tartar, steamed veggies, twice baked potato, and wedding cake). The wedding was beautiful and classy and the food was delish!

The wedding was a good 3 hours and a little more away. The reception was to end anytime after 1am. I was off the clock around 10pm so I headed to my room. I was beat and exhausted. I was full and tired. I had no desire to drink or dance. So I went to my room. At a 4 star Hilton. In Chicago. With a king sized bed. In a 4 star Hilton. I have decided that every few months I'm reserving a room in a 4 star hotel and I'm checking in as early as possible and staying overnight, alone. I love fancy hotels and I love staying in them. So I took a shower and relaxed and read.

Then I checked out at 525am and drove the hours back home to see Fab Finn be baptized. He was such a champ. He was a trooper. He was adorable and dressed in a little white baby tuxedo like outfit. He was awake and alert and checked out the whole thing. He gurgled and smiled. He was the cutest thing at 3 months old! He didn't even cry when they sprinkled the water on him.

After the baptism we went back to Bro and SisinLaw's house. It was the Divine MsK's 2nd birthday party. We had pizza and cake and she opened her presents and was cute and sweet and just adorable. She has a little widow's peak! She's so cute!

Today was a long day but it was good. Now, I'm getting a delightful foot rub from ITSam, watching Criminal Minds reruns and am going to clean my room.

Ah bliss.

Oh and did I mention I'm totally taking tomorrow off to have the house all to myself? Am so ready to chill.... I make no promises to do anything except to blog.

The Divine Ms. K turns 1

Today my niece celebrated her first birthday even though she officially won't be 1 year old until Thursday! Being a weekend and all, the entire fam-damily could get together for her Winnie The Pooh themed party.

She was spoiled to death by all her aunts, uncles and grandparents, as well as her favorite Auntie Mags.

She was bored with opening presents after the first one, sat in the boxes and tried to eat the tissue paper. BUT she loved eating her cake and ice cream, and smiled for everyone!

I always said great people are born in September- Ms. K and me!

Wishing the baby a happy day,
Auntie Maggie

Spendin' time with The Divine Ms.K!

I love my niece. I really love my niece. I love her so much that I agreed to babysit for her since her regular babysitter had a family emergency.

I babysat for her for two days. Two whole days. And I would like for Booknut and Philsgirl to stop laughing at me! She's fine and I didn't drop her or break her. Now, I'm a mom. Mac is 15, soon to be 16 years old. I didn't kill him off and other than currently having weird hair and an over excessive amount of sarcasm, I think he's fine so far. But I don't remember this being so hard.

The Divine Ms. K is beautiful and happy and perfect. She is so smart and charming. She loves to be held and she is playful. She's a real pleasure of a baby. She doesn't really cry or anything terrible. She's even cutting teeth right now and isn't bad at all.

Then why the hell am I so tired? We played rattle and sang. We did the "Wheels on the bus" and rocked and napped. We talked baby talk and drank juice. We watched some TV. She used my pink Blackberry to teeth on- is drool in the keyboard covered in my insurance plan? She giggled and smiled. I don't remember the whole baby thing taking this much energy. I was 21 when I did this last time but, I just don't remember it taking this much "oomph."

I would do it again in a heartbeat, of course. She's such a charm, who can resist the love of the Divine Ms. K?

AmericaninIreland Sam and I were talking about babies on Sunday night; I was telling him I was going to be the world's best Auntie by babysitting for 2 days. I think he was worried about the fact that I was spending so much time with her and that my biological clock would start ticking. I told him it wasn't an issue. Well, I had news for him to reinforce what I was saying! In the morning of the first day, I sent him an IM that said: "Rest easy my dear. My biological clock isn't packed in a box in the garage or disabled. It's gone. I do not have one!" He thought that was hilarious. Lost of people thought the more time I spent with her, the more I would want my own baby... NOT!

I love my niece to pieces. And if her mother, Booknut, is reading this, I LOVE babysitting for her! I don't know how women work and take care of babies. I swear it wasn't this hard 16 years ago. Go MOMS!

She who is without a biological clock,
Maggie

Holy, holy, holy!

Yesterday the Divine Ms. K was christened, and I attended (and the walls of the church did not come tumbling down!) the ceremony. She was such a good little girl. She didn't cry or fuss one little bit when she was sprinkled with the holy water. Then the minister carried her all over the church to show her off to the congregation and she giggled, laughed and smiled the whole time. What a ham! Five months old and already loving all the eyes on her.

And she looked perfectly adorable in her little while velvet dress and making satin bloomers. And she had one of those elastic headband things on, with a bow. And after the ceremony, she laid in her mama's arms and fell asleep. And in her sleep she rubbed her little head and caught her fingers in her headband and snapped her own elastic and woke herself up! She made this little yell and a terrible face but never let loose with a wail but we all thought she would. She shot daggers at her mama, I'm sure thinking it was all her fault!

It was a lovely day and she was such a star!

A star is born,
Maggie
