People who Tweet Me

Lately I've had some super cool Twitter things happen!

I will tweet company names sometimes, if I happen to be talking about them, and I've gotten some tweets back, and some retweets! McAlister's Deli has tweeted back to me lots of times, and retweeted me, too! I only get there a couple times a month, if I'm lucky, and I'm usually very excited about it so I tweet that experience. They even tweeted me on my birthday! I got a retweet from Starbucks, too, one time, which was cool.

I love celebrity twitter interaction. Author Jennifer Weiner, who must be one of the coolest, smart people on the planet, has actually engaged in a Twitter conversation with me. OMG! It was cool. She gave me writing and publishing advise, and another time something I tweeted made her smile, and she told me so. I thought that was cool. Actor Richard Schiff has favorited me a couple times, as has author Christopher Moore, which makes me want to turn cartwheels. Chopped Grill contestant who became an overnight celeb Kent Rollins has also tweeted conversation with me! And these are all famous folks who do their own tweeting, not hire it out, so I think it's pretty neat.

I think everyone who's on Twitter should follow all of the above, as well as Pauley Perrette and Neil Patrick Harris. Great celeb tweeters!

I enjoy the everyday folks from around the world I follow, too, who make me laugh or think or roll my eyes. It's a small thing but it does give me a modicum of pleasure so it's all good, right?

Who would you like to meet?

Okay, I've seen variations of this on several blogs and AlaskaSam did something like this on his Facebook, he said. (I have to take his word for it since I don't have Facebook and didn't see it for myself)

If you could have dinner with 10 people (together or separately) who would they be? They all must be folks who are currently alive! I would really love to know who everyone's thinking of right now. I have to say that when AlaskaSam showed me his list, I knew 5 of his 10; I was utterly clueless as to who the other 5 folks were on his list.

So, tell me who would like to meet. Feel free to respond here in my comments section, or if you do this on your own blog, leave me a comment so I can go read your picks.

And you can give a reason as to why you choose a specific person, or you can just gimme your list of 10.

Okay, here's mine:

1. President Obama- huge fan of this man, and I would like his ear for a few minutes to get his "off camera" comments on health care. I also want a job and would use this as an opportunity to network.

2. John Cusak- my future husband really should be meeting me soon

3. Johnny Depp- do I need to really give a reason other than he's the sexiest man to ever take a breath of air?

4. Martin Sheen- I've admired his career (and I always thought it was neato that he played advisor to the President in the film American President and then played the President on The West Wing. And at one time, when The West Wing was at its height of popularity, more people would've elected him to the Oval Office than the guy who was sitting.... shhhhh, I don't want to utter that Republican name here. ewww. ick!)

5. Lauren Bacall- such an amazing woman who could give all sorts of perspective about the golden age of Hollywood verses now

6. Monica Lewinsky- she got famous for blowing a President and doin' the nasty with a cigar. Hey, I'm curious, what you do next in life after that? Disneyland?

7. Colin Powell- the Gulf War happened at an interesting time in my life and he was such a major player during that (duh, the understatement of the century, I just typed) and he went on to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of the State and was considered as a possible Presidential candidate. I'm curious.

8. Michael Buble- I want to meet him if only that means he'll sing in my presence

9. Jon Bon Jovi- I've had a crush on him since high school so what the heck? Again, he's gotta sing (not country) and tell me about his 'movie' career.

10. Rita Moreno- she is one of the few people to have won an Emmy, an Oscar, a Grammy and a Tony. She was on a PBS show I watched as a kid and it was called The Electric Company. How do you do the Electric Company and still win the big 4? And she has a freakin kick ass voice- see her in the film West Side Story as Maria's older sister Anita. Wow.

Fixin' to serve dinner for ten,

I don't care what Harry says...

... men and women CAN be friends! Really! And the sex part doesn't have to get in the way!

In the 80s movie When Harry Met Sally, there is an infamous scene and ongoing theme in the film that men and women can't be friends without there being some sort of sexual attraction. And of course, the film goes from there in an ironic fashion. (This is one of my favorite movies of ALL time and I could type the dialogue verbatim between Harry and Sally Albright, which also ties in an analysis of Ingrid Bergman's character in Casablanca of why she married Victor Laszlo instead of bar owner Rick in the scene where it all kicks off.)

But Farrago and are are JUST FRIENDS. There is not sexual attraction. There is no sexual tension. There is no sexual undercurrent. We're not former 'flames'. Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch. We are just friends.

And the reason I bring this up is because while I was in Chicago over the weekend, I had several conversations with people on this very subject. One was with a woman at the karaoke party named K. K is married but thinks Farrago is, in her words, "totally hot." I'm like, "really?" and turn around to look at him. I don't see it. I mean, I don't think he's repulsive or anything but he's just not my type nor am I attracted to him; if he was the last man on earth and I were the last woman, the human population probably wouldn't die out, but that might be the only situation where he and I would ever have sex. Then she goes on and give me the third degree, wanting to know if we've ever dated, fucked, kissed, or made out and she just can't believe that none of that ever happened, nor do I desire it to happen. Because she really wants to date, fuck, kiss and make out with Farrago- which is a whole other can of worms, if you will.

Another guy at the party, whom I shall call R. also ran me through the same thing of wanting to know if Farrago and I were a "couple" or a former couple or just ever... "ya know" once. And I said nope. He then wanted to know if there was an undercurrent of sexual tension between us and again, I said nope. Farrago was just a buddy, a great friend, sort of like the older brother I never had. I can pick on him and he's nice about it-- and sometimes picks back. We talk and laugh and hang out, but that's as far as it goes. We never even flirt. R. was shocked and I'm not sure he totally bought it since he said he has a platonic female friend and they've "never" but he thinks she's hot.

So, I guess we're living proof that men and women can just be friends, no more no less. And I need friends more than I ever need or will need a "boyfriend", that's for sure!

And Farrago-- no offense was meant during the writing of this post!

Platonic and liking that status,
Maggie
