I Twitter but there's stuff I don't understand; same issue with Nook

Okay, so I Twitter but I need a class to get down all the lingo and jargon and what it all means. Is there a Twitter 101?

What #FF mean? Why do people say that or do that?

Also, I see that lots of people comment back to someone like @maggiemaeos but what's the original comment that started it all? And sometimes when I read the @whatever I'm not sure what the response is and what's the original comment.

And can I get to some of these links via the 'net, like to read book reviews or see recipes? Do I have to log into my Twitter online to do that? I don't always have the time or battery power to do it on my phone.

What's Pintrest and why is everyone on Twitter using it? Should I be pintresting?

I think I figured out trending but if anyone wants to clarify this, I'm open to another explanation.

And my big Nook problem is can I really lend and borrow books from people I don't know? If so, how?

And when I look at a book on Nook to buy and it has a "lending" tag, what does it mean?

Maybe I need to move somewhere where there is no technology? Or not this much technology?

I'm so in over my heard,
Maggie

Relive my Superbowl Tweets

Last night I was watching the Superbowl and I used my Twitter account and Tweeted about almost every single commercial that was debuted! No, I have no life. Yes, I was bored.

Information about Twitter for those of you who don't Tweet. Each Tweet is only able to be 160 characters each unless the tweeter (me, in this case) wants it to run into more than 1 Tweet. I like mine to fit into one tweet so pardon all the grammar and spelling errors. With only 160 characters I have to commit grammar sins.

The # sign indicates a hashtag which means that other people use this phrase on Twitter. If you put a # sign before a word and then search Twitter for that phrase, it will show ALL the people who used the same phrase in their tweets. It also automatically hyperlinks my hashtag so the search is easier. I don't know if the hyperlinks in Twitter will work through blogger. If not, who cares?

Because I just cut and pasted my Tweets then are the last ones I did first so scroll all the way to the bottom of this post and read upwards if you want them in order the order in which I posted them. I numbered them to make it easier to follow the order in which I Tweeted.

So, here's my view of last night's Superbowl...

25) This concludes my coverage of 2012 . I didn't manage to break Twitter&I watched the whole game. My next twit spree: the !

1) Score one for the 1st . Loved the 'employees singing the theme from ' ad! Smart, creative, and fun!

Twitter conflict

Well, I was laying in bed last night and I wrote an entire blog post in my head. Usually I jot down a few words or ideas when that happens but i wrote the entire post in my head and it never dawned on me that I'd forget an ENTIRE POST. WTH?!? I can't for the life of me remember what it was at all. I hate that!!! I feel like I'm losing my mind when I do things like that. So, this is not what I was going to blog about but it's better than nothing. And maybe my 'brain fart' will recover and I'll remember what I wanted to say.

So I follow someone on Twitter who's called 'nachosarah'. I don't know anything about her (or even him?) but she's funny. She says these one liners that make me giggle. Last night she Tweeted the following: "I bet Dalmatians are just thrilled about being the dog breed that has to fight fires." My first thought was to Tweet back at her: "Talk about a hot dog..." or my alternative Tweet back to her was "Better than being the dog breed that is associated with hot dogs."

Okay, I thought both of my responses were funny. And I think that while they aren't outwardly guffaw worthy, I think they at least merited a chuckle with an eye roll. I think people who know me probably would've at least smiled. But I didn't respond to her because she doesn't know me. And because she doesn't know me I wasn't sure she'd get my sense of humor and would think I was being a smartass. And I do not want to be in a Twitter war because my attempt at humor fell flat. I don't want her to think I was stupid, either.

Now, I thought I could Retweet her comment with my comment but again, i didn't want her to pick on me if she thought I wasn't funny. Big problem I often have when I write is that I'm trying to be funny or wittily sarcastic and it comes across more as mean or smarmy. There are tons of blog posts I've written and tossed because I was afraid no one would laugh.

I like to make people smile and giggle. I thought if I had any talent I'd do stand up but I can't imagine being up there and doing my thing and getting to the end and no one cracks a smile. And I'm not really a 'joke' person- as a matter of fact, I HATE to be told jokes- but I like to tell funny stories. I finally even made a label for some of my blog posts called "funny stuff" so people might realize it was supposed to be HUMOROUS. Now, I knew I was pushing it with the bellybutton post, walking a fine line between funny and gross and I think most people weighed in on gross (sorry about that!) and sometimes that happens in the world of writing funny. But there are times I think "hahahahahahahahaha" and no one else does.

And that's why I didn't write about about hot dogs to 'nachosarah'.

And the post I wrote in my head last night was much better than this one.

I have succumbed

I have decided to rededicate myself to blogging and even when I think I have nothing to say, I'm going to make you all suffer and write anyway.

And in an effort to help me with this process, I've started a Twitter account. Please follow me! I'd make the icon be linked to something so you could just click it to follow me but I'm not sure to what I should link it... what URL or code. So you can just click the sidebar. (Evil Pixie- you Twitter. How did you link your pix to your follow? Can you email me please, or leave directions in comments for my technology impaired self, please?)

Sometimes I'll Tweet (or is it twit?) just random observations, thoughts, and.... wait for it... potential blog ideas. About 2 or a million times a day I think of a great blog idea and then when I sit down to write it.... bam- it's gone! Sometimes those thoughts could translate into blog fodder and other times they could just be a Twit (Okay I have no idea if the lingo is correct but I'm totally using Twit because I like how it sounds!)

Also, if you Twitter, let me know your Twitter name and I'll follow you!

So, after a week of being gone, I know this is lame to just announce that suddenly I'm using Twitter, but that's the huge announcement for the week. Steve Jobs can retire, Facebook can re-tool itself (so appropriate since I think Zuckerberg is a tool), Obama can campaign for whatever he feels the need to campaign for, but the real news is that I now Twitter.

Oh, help us all!

Don't take my Twitter name in vain,

Am so not Twitter-pated

I don't Twitter. Until this week I wasn't sure what Twitter actually was except I knew I didn't want to know what Ashton Kutcher had for breakfast- whoopee shit.

Twitter is a real time messaging tool for socializing; you can send these messages via email or BlackBerry (or other hand held devise similar to the CrackBerry). People can subscribe, like a blog, and get a message alert on their PDAs or in email or just at the Twitter web site. People can send messages up to 140 characters. So in theory, I could send a message that says "Just ate bacon and oatmeal for breakfast; drank 2 mch coffee". Then everyone who subscribes to my feed would get this message and can respond. Who in the Hell wants to know what I ate or that I'm driving to work or that I'm scooping too much ice cream? Who cares about that stuff?

But on the other hand, I blog and I'm amazed that people read me on a daily basis. I'm thrilled and happy that you do read me- I'm most certainly not complaining, but if people read my blog then people might want to read my Twitter. And here, I have about 50 people who read me with regularity, and back when I had a previous blog under a previous moniker before ThatBitch outed me to the entire town of Wild West and I had to shut it down, I was having about 1300 readers a day there. So... to Twitter or not to Twitter is the question. I guess I could send out a Twitter to get people's opinions...

Time Magazine had a huge story about Twitter. I don't really agree with the article- I don't think this will change how people think. I think it's a phase. I'm probably wrong, but I think it will be another pop culture phenomenon like the Rubik cube or pet rocks.

But I'm struggling because I haven't Twittered so I'm not sure I'm completely educated about whether I should be against it or not. Look, part of me wants to Twitter because I want to be part of a wave, a new craze, maybe something that is going to be a firm and solid part of our future. On the other hand, if it's a phase, I can live without it. I don't want to be just a band wagoner. I don't want to have one more thing to maintain. I don't even have a Faccebook because I don't want something else I feel like I have to check and write on every day (and fear of rejection and nasty comments left by mean people, and because I don't know how to do it are two other additional reasons for my lack of Facebooking.).

I started blogging a little more than three years ago, and I guess that was when blogging was at its peak, but I didn't know it. I started blogging because a Sam told me I had writing talent and I should do it- he showed me how to get going. It was only months later that I discovered I was doing something that was considered a new craze in technology. Will Twitter be the same thing? Will I miss being part of something that I'll end up doing in another year or two anyway?

I've tried to follow a few blogs that post Twitter threads all day and I just don't get it. And I don't care. I'm not down on people who Twitter- actually, I don't even know anyone who does Twitter. And I'm not anti- technology. I have a DVD player, a laptop, a cell phone which is a BlackBerry no less, and an mp3 player, specifically iTunes. And I like all these things. I like downloading music and listening to a streaming radio station. I like watching TV online, and I like blogging. BUT I am not about ALL things that are technology. I have no desire to own a Kindle, for example. I just like my books as paper. Another new wave of the future- I don't want to Facebook or MySpace. And finally, I don't want to Twitter.

But if any of you Twitter, please let me know. Explain it to me. Teach me. Make me knowledgeable. Tell me what I'm missing.

Not a Twitter-er,
Mags
