A new favourite blogger!

While I'm in Ireland I thought I would tell you about another blogger who is amazing: Running in Stilettos. This girl is greeeeeeee-aaaaaaaaat!

She is witty and smart- and beautiful. Her writing is flavorful and intelligent. And with a title like that, how could I just not love love love her? Really!?!

She is madly in love, like a newlywed, to her marine hunny. She is outspoken and silly, sweet and sassy. You better expect a smart woman, and not just fluff from this southern girl-- I love her blog and am so delight to have found Running In Stilettos, so I suggest that you all check her out, too.

Enjoy!

Questions to Ponder while I'm gone

While I'm gone, here are some things to think about. Please discuss among yourselves... there will be a quiz when I get back!

If you have sex with a prostitute against her will, is it considered rape or shoplifting?

Can you cry under water?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a " penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box ?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby " when babies wake up like every two hours?

Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane ?

If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Emerald Isle- here I come!

I leave for Ireland today!!!!!!!!!

My bags are packed, laundry is done, everything ready to go... except vacation blog posts. I know if I were a good blogger I would've had 10 days of stuff written and ready to post while I was gone- fat chance of that happening! I'm so sorry, so everything was ready but that! (there are a few posts that I like to think of as mini advertisements that will post off and on...)

So, today Guard is taking me to the airport- I even get bonding time with him- how cool is that?

Now I have no idea when I'll be posting again. I'm going to try and do it every few days, but just in case I don't, I'll miss you all! And just in case I can't write about it, I have a new spot to toss some pictures up as I can! Check out my travel blog: "Across the Pond". And can't wait to share my trip. I canNOT wait to see Sam, to see Ireland, to get my first passport stamp, to do... everything possible!

I'll be back as soon as I can, at the latest March 18th!

See you from across the Pond,
Maggie

Weird stuff about me

Weird random facts about moi....

1. Magazines. I love to subscribe to magazines and I usually have about 6 or 7 coming to me at one time. I keep the mags in a wicker basket in my bathroom so I can read them when I lay in the bathtub and such. I hate it when someone reads my magazines before me- my name's on them so I want to be the first one to open it and read it and enjoy the new magazine smell. And (yes my magazine "issue" [please don't call the pun police!] continues) this week's Time was a special issue devoted to how crappy the economy is, one sad story for folks after another; I merely skimmed the issue and stuck it in the trash in an effort to make the bad stuff go away. And finally, if there are people on the covers, I always tuck them face down in the basket so they can't "see" me.

2. I have all sorts of glorious shoes in colors and styles that are stunning and beautiful. And I haven't had a job in 3 years where I could wear them comfortably. Teaching high school and being on my feet most of the day is not conducive for high heel shoes.

3. Riding horses is something I adore doing but I haven't for almost a year. And I'm not sure where my horse connection here in Civilization actually is. I need to make a horse connection.

4. I hate to fly but I will do it because it's a quicker way to get anywhere...

5. When I'm at home and bored, I have a tendency to pick one channel and let it just go over and over again. I was watching USA Network and watched rerun after rerun of Law and Order and NCIS. I used to do that with TNT and watch Law and Order, Without a Trace, and Las Vegas. Even if it's an episode I've watched I'll watch it again. And I have to say that Chris Noth is one of the best looking men in the world- he is hawt... (on the old Law and Order, and on the new ones...)

Randomly yours,
Magpie

I'm sick!

I'm sick with a head cold. I hate this. I'm taking huge amounts of Sudafed and cold meds and blowing my nose like mad in an effort to be well by Thursday because flying with a cold is NOT fun. I hate this, hate this, hate this. I had to turn down subbing yesterday because I felt like I was run over by a bus! Shit shit shit!

snottily yours,
Maggie

Got the perfect gift!

Thanks to Running in Stilettos, Curley, and Daddy-O for the suggestions/ ideas for gifts for Sam- where were the rest of your brilliant, ideas, may I ask?

Daddy-O made the trek to an antique shoppe and he spotted the perfect thing- a nautical compass, heavy as a paperweight, solid brass. Quite lovely, actually. It was just sitting in a quaint little shop! It now it's all mine!!! I'm going to try and get it engraved before I go...something like... "remember your one true north" or something to that affect.

I'm also going to get, maybe, a bottle of scotch at the duty free store. I might get a nice box of chocolates... we'll see!

Overall I'm VERY happy with the compass, and the other stuff would just be icing on the cake!

Counting down until Dublin days,
Maggie
