Random Hump Day Musings

In our community, we have a pizza place what has a Godfather theme to their business name. Godfather as in the mafia movie. What I hate is that the radio DJ who does the commercials does a TERRIBLE, and I mean TERRIBLE, impression of Brando as the Godfather. If I owned the place I would wall and just tell them "no" and to stop.

Tonight is opening night of Mac's school play! It's his first huge lead so I'm excited to see how well it goes for him. He's a bit of a diva about it all so I hope his performance lives up to his ego.

I'm adding a shelf here and there to the library bookcases. Well, let me rephrase that, I would LIKE to do that. I can find the extra shelves but the pins that actually hold the shelves are gone. Really. Who takes the pins? And I'll be honest here. We don't think it's the kids. Someone on the library committee who's been here since the invention of dirt said she wouldn't be surprised if a previous librarian- 2 or 3 ago- tossed them in the trash. Seriously?!?

Gasoline is so expensive right now that I put $30 in my tank this morning. I was so on Empty that the fuel light was on. And $30 filled it only half way. Prohibitive. It really irks me, and it's completely unnecessary.

My school didn't use all of their scheduled calendar snow days so I get this Friday off. Yup, no school at all. Just a day to hang out. Thank you to the day off gods! Did I mention Mac will be at school all that day? I'm going to sleep in and read and just be a bum.

I can't believe it could snow tomorrow. Not nice.

Princess did some work in her art class and it's been submitted to a local art school competition. I'll be visiting the gallery! She's one of the top contenders for ribbons in the categories she's entered in- I'll let you know what she wins!

Speaking of Princess and weather, she's running distance races in track and her meet is tomorrow. Of course, I'm going to watch and cheer her on but it's supposed to be a high of 31 degrees with possible snow. Today it's a high of 62 with a chance of rain. I'm so thrilled about standing outside in that weather tomorrow. Not.

One thing I miss from when I lived in Northern Civilization, Armpit, and even in the Wild West is that I always had a group of folks with whom I met for "Thirsty Thursday" festivities. I miss Thirsty Thursdays at the local watering hole. I don't even have a local watering hole.

Voodoo isn't always a bad thing, right?

The above is my voodoo doll. Okay, I bought it for my folks when I was in The Big Easy about 10 years ago and after my post last week, Daddy-O dug it out.

But here's the news that's fit to print. Think I should or should NOT use the Ol' Black Magic?
  • Sperm Donor had emergency surgery and came out fine. He was in the hospital for 5 days and was in a lot of pain but is home now.
  • Grandma Shrew is in the hospital as well with some sort of flu. She was there for a whole day and never called anyone because she couldn't remember any numbers, even though I live at the same number my mother (her daughter) had for 40 years. I'm just too terrible of a human being to call apparently. (Actually it's a good thing she didn't call. I don't want that sort of responsibility to her.) She would rather sit in the hospital without her family knowing than call me. COOL!
  • Trooper has not told me to go away, though his gun shy-ness is shining through, but he's sweet about it. he's such a... trooper. *giggle* (Oh come on! That was a great pun!)
  • ItalianSam sent me an email about a job that he has connections to so I might actually get an interview, at least. It's in Wisconsin somewhere... And it was a nice olive branch from him.
  • The insurance office might have a full time opening and I might be considered- if I want to become an insurance sales person... That would involve commission and more schooling.
  • The ice cream owner has to have some medical stuff done and wants me to run the day to day operations while this happens.
  • I can't find a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue that I bought for AIISam last March at duty free. I've had it here in my room since the break up and was going to give it to Farrago as a birthday gift and now it's missing. And no I didn't drink it.
  • I can't find my tv remote, either.
  • When I told the bank about all the hoops I have to jump through for that stupid fucking Verizon Wireless to give me the overdraft fees back, they just credited my checking account and told me to not worry about it.
  • I almost have free Indianapolis Colts tickets and am taking Trooper there on a date, if they come through. Now, am I the coolest could be girlfriend in history? (I think he might consider drastic measures if I scored Packers tickets... HAHA!)
So, it's a mish- mash of all sorts of blessings and curses.

Maggie

Tequila had nothing to do with it!

I didn't go spinning this morning and the tequila I consumed last night had nothing to do with it! I swear! As a matter of fact, I knew it was okay for me to consume the tequila because Insurance Barbie told me at work last night that she didn't have day care again for her boy- this was not a good week for her and day care, she said.

So when XRay Girl and I went to celebrate her passing her Anatomy and Physiology class (it's the do or die class- you pass it and you can survive the rest of the program. You fail it and you need another non medical major) so she could move forward in her radiology courses, we celebrated in style. I knew I wouldn't have to get up at 6am to spin- and no my head isn't spinning either, thankfully- so I had 4 margaritas with her. And we did have a great time laughing and being silly!

And as for spinning.... well, it looks like Insurance Barbie isn't gonna come through so I'm gonna see if there is an evening class and if so I'll either go it alone, or see if Booknut or XRay Girl wants to go. I know without a doubt, that no matter how much I love blog fodder, I will never, ever get up and go at 6 am all by myself, Just won't happen. So, I'll see what I can find out.

As for me and my Friday, I have to go ready to scoop ice cream. Well, I have to go get my car first. Daddy-O is going to take me to the Mexican restaurant parking lot to pick it up. :Ahem:

1 tequila, 2 tequila, 3 tequila...floor

I have officially hit an all time low- drunk blogging.

I would also like to announce that I am still celibate (that so sucks) AND I did not marry an illegal alien...

Oh that would only make sense if I tell you that we (my new friend XRay Girl and I) ate at an authentic Mexican restaurant. I didn't marry our super hot Hispanic waiter nor did I make him a citizen... or a notch on my lipstick case...damn it. He was so hot.

I and XRayGirl dranks LOTS of margaritas.

Over the river and through the woods [with vodka] to grandmother's house we go!

Today is the annual be made to feel guilty and be miserable Christmas celebration. It's on the calendar, I'm sure of it! Is there a Hallmark card for this celebration? It's also known, in my case, as a visit to grandmother's house.

Also, in my world, it's "OOOOOOOOO, grandmother, what a big mouth you have!!! OOOOOOOOOO, grandmother, what a heart of stone you have!" Ah, don't you just love a holiday that pulls the family together?

After she and Daddy-O had a row last year on X-Mas eve that was somehow my fault, it took us 4 months to speak to each other and now we talk about twice a month on the phone. It was easy when I lived in the Wild West and there were 2000 miles separating us, though sometimes that just wasn't enough. Now that I live in Civilization again, I'm practically in her backyard. Thank the shoe gods that I know the times and location of the nearest shoe stores. And liquor stores. And AA meetings, because living this close to her I'll probably need all three!

So this afternoon while ya'll are sipping eggnog and hugging your loved ones I'll be dodging verbal bullets over my hair, my weight, my lack of permanent job, Mac, and and anything else. Maybe this is the year I could give her the gift of my atheistness? Alright, I'm just kidding because I'm sure it would give my brother Guard a heart attack. My grandmother loves him and his family to pieces, thankfully!, and I just don't want to make them miserable.

I'll be good. And bring my own "water" bottle!

Think anyone would notice if I spiked the eggnog? Oh damn, we never HAVE eggnog!

Happy Merry Christmas Eve!

Tipple to me,
Maggie
