And she wore a pink....

Here's the sweet surprise I got from ITSam on Christmas!!!!!

As regular readers know, I have an obsession with Tiffany & Co. so this was just an amazing treat and a wonderful surprise! I think people could hear me scream from the shock of opening a REAL Tiffany & Co. bag! I adore the Tiffany keys and to have a genuine one and with a hint of pink, and on a pretty chain to wear around my neck... well, ITSam did very well!

Happy Pink Saturday- thanks Beverly for hosting!!

Tickled Pink Saturday

I have three reasons to be tickled pink this particular Pink Saturday (thank you to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hostessing this weekly event!) that I just have to share!

FIRST!
I want to say thank you to Evil Pixie, blogger buddy extraordinaire for nominating me for blogger of the year. I am officially one of the top 25 best blogs, so far, as chosen on The Blog Guidebook. My status can go up, with a little help from my readers. Voting commences today. It says "Voting starts Saturday at 6 a.m., and ends at 6 p.m. on Friday. The five blogs with the lowest votes will be eliminated." This is for Round 1. So, if you click HERE (or on the button) and vote for me as "best blog" I'd be much obliged! I'm just tickled Pink that Evil Pixie would nominate me for such a wonderful honor! Thank you dear Pixie!

Here's what Evil Pixie wrote about me: The blog is written by Maggie O’Sullivan, and it is warm, funny, and frequently brilliant. Maggie writes about her life as a single mother, struggling to provide for her little family but always keeping her sense of humor. It is honest, insightful, and fun. Most importantly, it is real. She discusses everything from her relationships to her struggle in making ends meet. This is a blog that completely deserves your award. Thank you so much. I can't say thank you enough! (And though the award itself isn't Pink, the lettering is!) So please please please vote for me!

SECOND!

Princess went to her Prom tonight and she looked amazing. Alcatraz has a prom for their juniors and seniors and call is the President's Winter Ball. The dresses the girls wear are all donated and this is a huge, big deal. Princess had a donated dress that was not very becoming. So...

I borrowed the dress from a high schooler I know. Daddy-O got in the act and bought the shoes. Curly took care of all the jewelry and XRayGirl donated Bath and Body Works products for pre-prom preparation. I took her for a hair cut and color earlier this week- and to get a tiara. As I said, she looked amazing. Better than amazing. Beautiful. Stunning. She was a princess. Absolutely gorgeous. She had a wonderful time. It was a fancy dinner and dancing. She was the belle of the Winter Ball. It was my pleasure to be there. I was so proud of her and so happy this could happen for her. Here are two pictures of her (due to privacy issues, I can't show her face. You just have to take my word for it that she looked stunningly beautiful, like a true princess...) dress. Did I mention she likes pink?

I was tickled pink she was Cinderella for a night, and that we could all be her "mice'!

THIRD!
I'm tickled pink over my new job. I know I've mentioned it before, but I just can't wait to start work at Alcatraz in their school library. I start work on Wednesday. I am beyond happy and thrilled to be back there. And as the librarian!

Maybe I should wear pink shoes on my first day?

Happy Pink Saturday!

Pink Sunrise on Pink Saturday

I got to school the other morning and the sun was coming up and it was so beautiful so I tried to capture it here. What a lovely way to greet the day! I love the shadow of the trees and all the textures of pink in layers. And I was excited to see I caught the birds in the last shot.

Thank you to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturdays.

Please visit fellow pink blogger Jacqueline at Purple Chocolate Home. Her blog is so classy looking, and creative. She has so many wonderful ideas and great pictures!

Pink Saturday: the pink birthday gifts of 2010

My birthday was two weeks ago and I showed some presents I received as 'early gifts' that were pink- and I got them the day or two before my birthday.

Since my friends and family like to spoil me, I got more pink presents on and after my actual birthday! Now how wonderful is that?

So here are the rest of my pink presents...!

ITSam gave me this pair of For The Cure socks! I *love* socks so these are perfect in so many ways!

Curley made me these two bracelets.

Curley made me this adorable ruffled apron, that's pink and covered in cupcakes, the world's best cake. I LOVE it!

Did I mention I love socks? Well Curley made me these! The ones on the right are regular warm socks but the ones on the left are yoga socks. The toes and heels are gone. I don't do yoga but they are perfect to wear with flip-flops until it snows!!!!!

A pretty pink bag that all my gifts from Curley came in!

A pretty antique tea cup. I don't usually do miniatures like this but Curley said it was so beautiful she couldn't resist!!!! And it's lovely!

And finally a cute "support the cure" winter cap, which I can never have too many of!

Remember that October is Breast cancer awareness month so remember to get the "ta-tas" squished!

And thanks as always to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturdays. And instead of featuring one fellow pink blogger, I suggest you just go to Beverly's page and click one at random, just for fun! There are so many great Pink bloggers!

Maggie

Which pair to wear this Pink Saturday?

Here are three of my favorite pairs of shoes, all with some pink of course! And all fits a different mood, while they all fit the same foot. It's almost time to put away flip-flops, or so most people think, but I have toe socks and will wear them all until the snow flies.

And just on a random pink note. Someone asked me the other day why I like pink so much. I like pink because it's a happy color. It makes me smile. I look good wearing pink and it also goes with so much. It can make the drabbest gray have some zing, pep and style. I like that it's a girlie color and that it comes in so many different shades so there's always a shade that fits my mood.

Of course, as always, thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday. This week I want to feature a pink blogger who is also supporting and sponsoring a good cause. Valerie's son is in Afghanistan. She came up with the idea of Cans For Cookies US Troops. Check out her web site for the details but the general concept is to encourage people to contact her for a name and address and then to bake and send 2 dozen cookies to a soldier.

Pink Saturday presents birthday pinks

Since I'm celebrating a birthday, officially tomorrow, and since my boyfriend dubbed this weekend Princess Weekend in honor of my birthday, I thought I should share some "early birthday" pinks I've received so far!

He sent me this perfect pink bud with the fancy pink balloons on Thursday!

And one of my BBFs, Lilith, got me this absolutely gorgeous, darling, fabulous Donna Sharp hipster bag I've been coveting for about a year!!!! Thank you!!! I love it!!!

Then yesterday ITSam took me, as a surprise, to Northern Civilization and treated me to a pedicure. I got a french pedi and instead of white, I had them use a dark shade of pink, though I realize in this picture it looks more reddish.

Thanks as always to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturdays. Please visit her blog to see a complete list of this week's participants. Another feature of PS is to introduce a fellow PS blogger. This week I want you to meet Fifi at Fifi Flowers. She's a brilliant artist that has so much talent and so much whimsy in her work.

Happy Pink Saturday everyone!

Pink Stuff

This is pink stuff I want. Thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturdays.

This Saturday my feature fellow pink blogger is Mary at One Perfect Bite. This has to be one of the yummiest blogs I've ever seen, as well as being classy in content, written and visual. The food is to die for, the photos superb and the personal anecdotes are the perfect touch, making it a blog experience that is One Perfect Bite.

Love,
Maggie

I'm feeling in the pink this Saturday!

One thing I miss about living in the Wild West is the sky, the land, the landscape, the colors. Okay, that's more than one thing... Whether at sunset or sunrise, the sky there is amazing, a huge pallet of color. I love all the pinks that could be found in the sky.

My Wild West night skies were beautiful. The stars punctuate the sky and have this breathtaking splendor that is indescribable. To stand in utter the simple darkness of the night, with no trees, or city lights in the distance, to have nothing but unbroken sky the stretches to the end of the earth and that vast open space is filled with stars. More than saying they look diamonds. These stars in my Wild West sky defy explanation. The sunsets are shot with color, melting into each other, creating imagery that can't be copied.

The sky and the land meet in a place that is as far away as heaven- no trees or buildings or mountains break the vision of a vast land of nothing but sky and land. It’s like looking into an ocean of color, seeing nothing except where the sky and land touch somewhere in the vast, great distance that could be heaven.

It is a vast land. It is lonely and hard. This land is beseeching yet graceful. It is hauntingly empty, yet there is comfort in the emptiness as it erupts when the wind sweeps over plains, the wheat grasses and the breeze dancing a slow dance to a beat only they know, almost becoming one, like long time lovers who anticipate all the caresses to the love making before it happens.

Sometimes I miss the Wild West...

Thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday. And an extra special thank you to her today for making me a featured blog, listed on her site! And special thanks to all of you for stopping by, and for commenting!

I also want to take this time to recognize Lisa at Pupylov. She's a fellow blogger and she's just an awesome lady. I love to visit her blog; it's a potpourri of wonderfuls. She's a dog lover, a pink lover, a handcraft maker, and just a sweet person. I love the blog world for letting me meet someone like her! So go visit her blog, too. You won't be disappointed in the sweetness you find there.

Happy Pink Saturday everyone!
Kisses and cake,
Maggie Mae

Pink- it's like red but not quite

I love me a summer pedi. And rather than the various reds I've worn all summer, I decided to go with a bit of PINK; the color is called "cotton candy baby"! And this is how I like to be- barefooted, with no toe rings and no shoes. Though I do apologize for the swollen feet- all the heat is killing me. There was no angle and no shoe that made my feet look cute today.

And while I am lover of shoes, I am really a shoe hater. The problem is that I would prefer to be barefoot all year long but Midwest winters don't accommodate. So I have a shoe crush, a shoe fetish, my ITSam calls it an obsession. And since I'm a "fat" girl, shoes always fit when no other line of clothing does. I guess I'm just a whirlwind dichotomy.

Thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hostessing Pink Saturdays. And visit fellow pinkie Vintage French Hen, a beautiful and quirky little blog that reminds me of my favorite antique store. I never know what I might find but I'm always delighted with the results and always have a smile. Her blog is so much fun!

Pink Saturday presents: Mothers and Sons

There's a special relationship between mothers and sons. The other day Mac said something about when he's an adult he'll be in his own home and he'll think, "what would mom do in this situation" and then he'll go do it, like fix dinner or do laundry. What got me was the whole "I'll do what mom would do" part.

I'm a mom first. I make the tough decisions and hard choices. I ground him when necessary. I make sure he does chores. I nag. I'm often the mom AND the dad. I can't just be the good guy; darn the part of parenting that makes me have to set and enforce rules!

But Mac is a pretty easy kid to parent at age 17. (Should I knock on wood?) So far I've been especially blessed to have very few problems with him. Most of the time I can be the fun mom. The mom who can play video games, share a pizza, see a movie, be silly, go for coffee, giggle over stupid jokes, tease, laugh, talk, debate, and just generally be laid back.

He goes to college next fall. My baby will go to college. I keep looking at my Daytimer, and counting the days. He's my son and sometimes he's a buddy. But no matter what he's my baby. What do people do when their only child goes away to school? Oh I know he's not gone yet, but still it sticks in my head. I'm a single mom, and not prospects to get married or be a couple and my only kid will be doing his own thing. I want him to go, have a great time at school, succeed, live his own life, but how in the world do I let go? Damn that passing time...

What am I going to do with all my time? Can I move to his college town? Okay, I know I can't but it's crossed my mind. I worry when he goes to the movie with a friend. What am i going to do when I go for weeks and not be able to see him, to check on him, to make sure he has clean laundry, does his homework, cleans his room so his roommate doesn't kill him?

Thankfully I have a year to figure it out.

Maggie Mae

Do these shoes match this purse? You betcha!

Curley and I made a dress for me! Isn't that material wild? And you can't have a zingy new dress without matching shoes and purse! Otherwise, I would be false advertising here at my blog! Ummm, and I added the boa for fun! So, here I am modeling our creation! thank you Curley for my beauty! Can't wait to see the purple one! (and I wasn't sure if I wanted to be in the picture of not, but the dress didn't look the same on the hanger... and this picture sure looked funny when I decapitated myself!)

Thanks to our Pink Saturday hostess Beverly at How Sweet the Sound! And please visit Nancy, fellow pink blogger who always has something wonderful and creative and clever for PS and all the time! And I love the comments she leaves me, and her "attitude" in her writings! She rocks. And lucky her- she's moving back to civilization- California! Go Nancy at La Chambre Rose (Linens and Laurel).

Please enjoy the pinks I have for you today and feel free to pop over and see all the other pink blogs; Beverly is having a giveaway in honor of the birthday, along with balloons and cake, of course! Never knew there was so much pink in the world....

Words to live by...

Let them eat cake... as long as it's pink, of course! And I think cupcakes are the world's most perfect desserts!

Final days of Spring Pinkdom... and some non-pink music

I had a different plan for my Pinks today but it just didn't fall together for me, and now I'm spending all day today in Chicago so I still couldn't make it happen. So I went with plan B.

I loved spring this year and it feels like it vanished so quickly so here are some last minute blooms! Enjoy! And thanks, as always, to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday.

On another note...

I love this song. I love this video. I love that Ryan Bingham is sexy.

"You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I'll tickle your catastrophe!"

The title of this blog post comes from Shakespeare's Henry IV... and I felt this weekend needed to be insulted in a way that the old Bard can only do!

After the craziness that was last night of taking the kids to be volunteers, taking them home, picking up Curley, chatting with Mac about his concert, funeral viewing, dinner, Mac's concert, Curley home and then me home (whew!) I had just planned on vegging the entire weekend. But this two day holiday had other things in mind for my lazy butt!

Mac is taking the SATs today. He has to be at the testing center at 8am. Of course at 11pm last night he announces his calculator needs 4 AAA batteries and he needs two pencils of the non mechanical but number two variety. He also laid a guilt trip on me the size of Texas that I'm a teacher so I know the importance of a good breakfast before a test... blah freaking blah. And the car was on E and the gas light had been on for 3 days. Thank goodness Daddy-O had the needed batteries and since I'm a teacher I had the necessary non- mechanical but #2 variety- pink ones I might add- so haha! And rather than have myself a nice lie in, a lovely morning of laying in bed sleeping in, enjoying a dark gloomy rainy Saturday I was up fixing him breakfast. Yes I love my son but drat!!!! And I accidentally burned the bacon. I did make coffee though! I also gave him money and sent him for fuel for the car while I cooked so all is well. (And I chant: "please please please let him do well so he can get into the University he wants and go to law school and make lots of money and give me some please please please")

I also agreed to go with Curley to her brother-in-law's book signing! I was going to do that anyway but not until later in the day so I'm certainly not complaining about it! Books! Hel-lo?

And I can occasionally have those "dumbass attack" moments as I like to call them. Other have "a-ha" light bulbs flash on brightly but I get "duh" moments as my bulb burns out.... I wrote down my Sisinlaw's baby shower on my calendar for NEXT Sunday rather than when it really is... tomorrow. So I'm going. And again, I am NOT complaining but this is where I get more mad at myself that anything else. I did something dumb with the dates, and now I don't have his (we know the baby is a he) quilt made for tomorrow. I hate it when I'm stupid. Of course I want to go to honor my almost born nephew! I was so glad Sisinlaw and Curley reminded me!

So my restful weekend of being a worthless layabout is no longer. I have plans.

OH.... AND the one day I didn't do a Pink Saturday post, Tiffanee makes a lovely, kind mention of me on her blog! Thank you Tiffanee! So, here is an unofficial Pink Saturday picture!

This is my niece, the Divine Ms K, and this was taken about a year ago. Hey, sometimes you just gotta wear shades!

So, thou art weekend of busy events, you gaphornious villain, go forth for I shall conquer ye!
