Think Kit Day 10- no habits nor habits...

Okay so I'm really starting to think I'm pretty pathetic because today's Think Kit topic is:  What habits did you start this year that you want to continue? What inspired you to get in a new groove? Will you continue into 2014?

And I have no new habits... I have plenty of bad habits but in no way did I start any new habits this year.

So... I again am going to Small-box to save my blogging-butt for a topic: Did you take any wardrobe risks this year? Did you follow a new trend? What item did you wear most?

Clothes... now this girl KNOWS clothes!  I love clothes. I hate summer clothes because I can never get cool enough so I live in capris and flip-flops. And this summer that's what I wore. Because i went to Florida I did treat myself to a few new items like a pair of white capris, a sundress, and 2 cute little skirts. I wore those in FL and still when I cam back to reality and back to school.

Winter clothes and shoes are my favorite things ever!

I gave into a trend this year and I now own a pair of chocolate brown leather knee boots. And I LOVE them! I have lots of clothes they go with: a brown skirt, a tweed skirt in earth tones, a pair of skinny jeans (I own ONE pair of skinny jeans and I wear them with these boots only and with long cardigans), a black dress, several sweaters and shirts.... love these boots. I want them in black now, please! I followed the trend and am happy! I wear these lots!

As a fat girl, shoes always fit. I buy shoes. A lot. I bought new black loafers and put the old ones to rest. I also bought new brown loafers because.... uhhhh... I wanted some.

I adore scarves and have lots of them and wear them often.

I'm a librarian and I think a mandatory item is the ever present Cardigan. At one time I counted and I think I ended up with 37 cardigans... in about every shade known to humankind.

A favorite outfit this winter has been black tights, the basic black dress, a long brown cardigan, the brown boots, and my leopard print scarf and purse. Sometimes I swap the tights for stockings and the boots for my leopard print high heel shoes.

I love jeans and it would be my dream to have a professional job where I was allowed to wear jeans all the time. Yeah... right- not! And the school I work at does NOT have a jeans day ever so I bought  a pair of 'denim trousers'. Women will understand this! And I realize that is a sexist comment...

Oh--- and I have a pair of yoga pants that I adore. It's like being able to go without pants but in pants. I don't leave the house in them because my ass isn't really built for yoga pants but at home--- all bets are off. OHHHH-- and no, the yoga pants have never been to yoga.

Yup I love clothes. I have my standby outfits of jeans and shirts, skirts and blouses, sweaters and the overall classics that never go out of style but every year I get a few items that are really trendy. I love clothes, the clothes horse than I am. I own just about everything... well, not everything. I don't own a nun's habit...

The hunt for the perfect shoes

I think it's safe to say it's an obsession when I have people state wide hunting for a specific pair of shoes, and then taking that request to the Internet to have people world wide hunt for said shoes!

There are 2 girls at school who have these adorable shoes:

I AM IN LOVE WITH THESE SHOES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tried on student's shoes on and figured out what size I need- a 9. I also found out the name of the stores where the girls bought them: one got hers at Marshall's and the other at Pamida. I obviously photographed the shoes. We wrote down the name brand: Rock & Candy. Then the search began.

I don't have either of these stores near me but the Future Husband Guy(maybe) has 3 Marshall's in a 20 minute drive of his house. Armed with the picture he went to the first one. They were out of the shoes altogether. He went to the second one and he found the blue version. The sales clerk said they were out of the pink and the clerk called the 3rd store and they too were out. (The clerks thought it was adorable that he had a picture of the shoes and was willing to go store to store to find them for me! And a woman in line behind him wanted to see the picture and pronounced the shoes "adorable!" And said he was "adorable" for hunting for me!) The clerk said they're supposed to get another shipment next month. Boo!

While he's running around the City hunting, I'm Internet searching, to no avail. I can't even find a picture of the shoes in this colour scheme! I did find more stores that carry the name brand and style, though. I told him that so tomorrow he's going to PacSun, Journey and Macy's to see what he can find. I love love love him for doing this!

And I really hope he finds the shoes.

And if anyone out there happens across a pair... well, I'd be eternally grateful!

The "How Girlie Are You" Quiz

Last night I went shopping, by accident. I think only a woman would ever do that. I went to Wal-Mart for one thing: silver crackle nail polish. And they were out. I knew the Wally World in the next town over had about 40 bottles of the stuff, so ITSam and I took a brief road trip. The purpose was to get the polish, a cheese danish, a new house key, and then a de-caf Peppermint Mocha with whip from Starbucks.

The plan went awry.

We went the 22 miles to the next town and their Wally World was now out of Crackle, even though 5 nights ago they had about 40 bottles. I was pissed. I drove all that way for nothing. I was no upset I thought I might not be able to enjoy my Starbucks. I wondered back to the keys and found a Pink House Key with a Silver Tiara on it, surrounded by Silver Rhinestones. This was my dream key. And since Daddy-O and I keep locking ourselves out and Booknut has to keep unlocking the house for us, I decided to get a Pink Key cut for me and then hide the boring one.* I paid for my cut dream key** and left, still fuming over the nail polish.

Until I remembered there was a Meijer next door. And I went there. And they had about 40 bottles of Crackle polish, of which I purchased a silver one. And I got ASSORTED mini danishes, which are far superior to those plain cheese kind, AND I got a new travel mug covered in PINK HIGH HEELS!!! So, I accidentally shopped.

ITSam said only a girlie girl could accidentally shop, which led him to say I was such a girlie girl and that I took normal girl things to the next level. Now, I don't think that's quite fair. I'm not THAT girlie girlie, so I wrote and took my own "How Girlie Are you" Quiz, and I determined I'm just a perfect girlie girl. Here, you can take it your own-selves! Pick one answer per number:

1) a-If you've had a man in our own home or in our own apartment building come over for the soul purpose of killing a spider, give yourself 1 point.
b- If you had a man operate a motor vehicle to come over and kill your spider, give yourself 2 points
c- If you moved to get away from the spider, give yourself 3 points

2) a- If shopping is daily exercise, 2 points
b- If shopping is your hobby, 1 point
c- If you can name your favorite QVC hostess's dog's name, give yourself 3 points

3) a- If you have more than four shades of lipstick you wear on a weekly basis, 2 points
b- Less than four shades, 1 point

4) a- If you need to call someone to change your tire, 1 point
b- If you refuse to pump your own gasoline, 2 points

5) a- If you refuse to use a public bathroom unless it's located in a 5 star hotel, restaurant or in an exclusive department store, 2 points
b- If you'll pee indoors anywhere, 1 point
c- if you've used an outhouse or peed outside, subtract 1 point

6) a- if you have 5 or more pairs of shoes that have matching handbags, 2 points
b- if you have less than five, then 1 point
c- give yourself 1 more point if you own at least 10 pairs of shoes or 10 purses, even if they don't match each other! (Heaven forbid!)

7) a- if all of your jeans are designer or your don't own jeans, give yourself 2 points
b- take away a point if you're willing to leave the house in sweatpants

8) a- If you might say something like this "Drinking Water only grows in bottles and is called Evian" then give yourself 2 points
b- If you prefer bottle water but will drink tap water out of an act of desperation, give yourself 1 point

9) a- if you spend more than 20 minutes styling your hair (washing and blow dryer do not count in the allotted time period) each day, 2 points
b- if your hair is a fire hazard due to the amount of product you use, give yourself 3 points
c- if you can't remember your natural hair color, you get 4 points

10) a- if your favorite color is pink, 1 point
b- if you're asked your favorite color and you say a specific shade of pink, 2 points

11) a- if you dog fits in your handbag, you get 2 points
b- if your dog also has a stylist, give yourself 3 points
c- if using the pooper-scooper doesn't freak you out, then subtract 2 points

12) a- if your life long dream is to be Miss America or be on Project Runaway or be besties with Snookie, 2 points
b- if your default TV channel is CNN or the History channel, subtract 1 point

Bonus question: if your biggest problem with the Bill Clinton/ Monica Lewinsky scandal was that she would wear that blue dress in public, give yourself an extra 2 points

Now, add and subtract all your points. Results are as follows:
0-6 points= are you sure you don't have a penis?
7-25= Just Girlie enough!
26 or more= You rival Paris Hilton!

I had 14 points. So, see.... just perfect!

And I can't help it if I accidentally shopped. For nail polish and a shoe coffee mug. Things like that are just bound to happen to us all at some point in life...

pink lipsticky kisses,
Mags

* the boring one is silver and nice, but it's a plain silver, albeit sparkly, key.

** The stooopid girl working at the key cut took 2 tries to get it right and when I got home, it didn't work. I marched out to my own local Wally World and got my money back. Then I determinedly headed back to our local key cutter and it was closed for the night- because why would Wally World have someone cutting keys at 10:37pm on a Saturday night, right? The keys were located in the Automotive department, which was closed. Only "closed" meant a sign was set up that said "do not enter." Well, I entered, went to the key rack, found a replacement key, and went up front and paid for it- uncut. I am taking it to the locally owned and operated hardware store to see if they can cut they key in a capable fashion... this will be the third attempt.

Random stuff in my head on a Tuesday

During the first week of Weight Watchers (my weigh in was today), I lost 2 pounds. Feh. Daddy-O and Mac together lost weight equaling a newborn. GOOD for THEM!

XRay Girl still isn't talking to me. It's breaking my heart.

Today we finished inventory of all the fiction and all the new books. Since I had no idea what I was doing and had to start over last week, it wasn't bad that it only took 4 days for the fiction. Tomorrow, I start the non-fiction. I'm going to let kids start checking out books in fiction, since they're driving me crazy!

ITSam is working like hell to get me to take him back. It hasn't worked.

Mac still doesn't have a summer job, darn it!! He's applied about 10 places but no luck yet.

I showed Casablanca to my summer school film class (it's an all girl class) and they "didn't get it." WTF is there not to get? Ugh! The youth of today!!

I'm psyched about meeting Lilith in Northern Civilization tomorrow!!! Talking, dinner and book browsing are on the agenda. And I called Archiver's and she and I can work on our scrapbook projects if we want, even though it's a Wednesday!!

Why does Vanna White wear ballgowns to flip letters? And the letters don't even flip anymore, just touch and they light up.

I got some new shoes and they look awesome. Pictures will be forthcoming.

The day things went wrong

  • ITSam and I split up over the weekend in a flurry of Sam-caused- drama and I'm exhausted from all the stupidity of it
  • I started Weight Watchers today. My daily point total sucks.
  • I started my period today... though I guess this is good news, considering the alternative!
  • X-Ray Girl is pissed off and I got in the line of fire of that and she's mad at me now, too- which is ITSam's fault (Curley and Daddy-O, please don't say anything to her if you see her!!!)
  • My sandal strap broke at school and the shoes had to be thrown away
  • I'm doing inventory of all the library books and it's a huge, damn disaster! Hasn't anyone done this before?
  • I mis-balanced my checkbook today and have $8 from now until pay day, which is a week from tomorrow- shit!

Shoes glorious shoes!!

Since I seem to be on a photo kick of late, I thought I would feature some of my new shoes. I can't believe how long it's been since I've shown off the latest in footwear. I've been neglecting the "shoe" part of my blog! Oh the shame!

I've fallen in love with the "Ballet slipper" style, or the "Chinese Laundry" shoe style, and I've gone so far to get them in red, purple, and red. )I have a pair in silver, but I think I've featured them here, back in September....) Sometimes they show some toe cleavage but I think I like 'em anyway.

I also have a super comfortable pair of flip-flops. But the soles are the memory foam so these are really comfy each time I put them on.

And finally, I totally fell in love with these boat style, slip-ons. I love the plaid and they are completely cool, in temperature and in looks. I'm watching the shoe store to get another pair just like 'em but in a different color.

My happy feet,
Maggie

Random Hump day thoughts

Mac gave his last band performance and he was awesome. I was so proud of him. He even had a sax solo during a Beatle's classic. Wow. Just wow. And as he said when it was over, "well, that was the last time I'll ever perform on stage during high school." *gulp*

ITSam and I planned to take Mac and Jack (Sam's son) to a Japanese steak house and to see Thor in IMAX/ 3-D this coming Saturday. It's a last birthday gift for Mac and an early birthday gift for Jack- sort of smack in the middle of the two boys' birthdays & Jack will be 12 in two weeks. It's not Sam's typical weekend with Jack so he asked his ex-wife if she cared and she said no because she owed him a weekend; he and Jack talked about it and Jack was really psyched. He spoke with her last Saturday. He made reservations for dinner, Mac made sure he didn't have plans, I turned down a transport job and was actually online to order tickets for the movie. Sam called his exbiotch to check times with her and she canceled on him. He was PISSED! So, he got Jack on the phone. Jack said he didn't want to go because his mom's boyfriend's youngest son was having a bowling birthday party and he wanted to go to that instead. Sam is furious. I have no idea how she convinced Jack to give up the steak house he loves and begs to go to each weekend and to pass up an IMAX movie he's been begging to see for a month to go bowling, but she managed it. She's moving Jack to Florida in a month so Sam was really looking forward to this extra time. Not pretty.

Every spring my feet kill me for a couple weeks. I go from wearing sturdy winter shoes to flip-flops and sandals. During the adjustment my feet feel like they could just fall off.

I made a "crouton salad" last night which was awesome. I loved it. Yes, I know I should've taken pictures. Take my word for it and it was delish. Let me know if anyone wants the recipe! Very garlic-y which I consider a plus.

I found a vintage dining room table and chairs. It's a metal topped table- that's white- and metal legs. The chairs are soda fountain style and the seats are pink with red cherries. It's adorable. I think parents should get a graduation gift when their kids make it this far and I want this! It's at a local antique store. I'll try and get some photos to share!

The other morning we were running a little late for school so Mac used Daddy-O's bathroom. (He lets us so we weren't invading his space!) Now Mac is in LOVE with the bathroom and wants to call it his "temporary man cave." I find it hilarious.

I love cereal. When Mac was little he would go with me to the store and want some adult cereals like Special K and Mini Wheats. I always wanted the junkie kid cereal like Fruity Pebbles, Peanutbutter Captn Crunch, trix and Count Chocula. I love me some cereal and want it for dinner.

Which pair to wear this Pink Saturday?

Here are three of my favorite pairs of shoes, all with some pink of course! And all fits a different mood, while they all fit the same foot. It's almost time to put away flip-flops, or so most people think, but I have toe socks and will wear them all until the snow flies.

And just on a random pink note. Someone asked me the other day why I like pink so much. I like pink because it's a happy color. It makes me smile. I look good wearing pink and it also goes with so much. It can make the drabbest gray have some zing, pep and style. I like that it's a girlie color and that it comes in so many different shades so there's always a shade that fits my mood.

Of course, as always, thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday. This week I want to feature a pink blogger who is also supporting and sponsoring a good cause. Valerie's son is in Afghanistan. She came up with the idea of Cans For Cookies US Troops. Check out her web site for the details but the general concept is to encourage people to contact her for a name and address and then to bake and send 2 dozen cookies to a soldier.

Shopping stuff

I need new clothes. Thank goodness I have a birthday soon and my nearest and dearest may decide to shower me with birthday clothes. Or gift cards. I was looking at my work clothes and I have the same pair of blank and brown pants that I've worn for about 5 years. I remember when they were too big, just right and now a bit snug. I have an array of t-shirts but hardly any dressy tops. I own no khakis. My favorite stuff is faded, worn thin, showing it's age, and is frayed. These are my work clothes I'm talking about here. I'm in a world of hurt. But, I've found that Old Navy has some plus size stuff online that is CUTE. And affordable. Gap and Old Navy are somehow related and there are some adorable khakis on there, and some adorable tops, and a smart looking jacket. If I piecemeal it all out, I could have a decent looking wardrobe in a year. Oh well.

In other shopping news, Sam bought me shoes this weekend. As a reward for throwing away 5 pair of shoes this summer (three pairs of worn out flip-flops and 2 pair of butt-ugly sandals that I can figure out why I bought in the first place) he bought me new tennis shoes (cute Sketchers with no laces and no tongue) AND he also bought me a pair of brown leather Sketchers that will go with almost everything. Jeans and anything I own for the winter in earth tones. Which is just about everything. Now, how can I not love a man who buys me shoes?

This weekend we also did the rummage sale/ antique store/ auction thing. I spent nothing and Sam spent a whole whopping $4- on me. I found a teacup and saucer for my collection. And I found 2 vintage purses. They're patent leather clutches, one red and one black. They are perfect and to die for. Pictures will be coming forthwith. We browsed an antique mall, which is always fun, but it was so hot and dusty that we gave up. And we found a DELIGHTFUL auction with a gorgeous set of china that I separately wanted. However, this auction had 3 barns worth of farm stuff, plus a garage, some autos, and some tractors. Then there was all the furniture- in a four bedroom house. The table where the dishes were located was table 3. It was going to be last. So we could've spent the ENTIRE afternoon on Saturday sitting in the hot sun for about 4- 5 hours before they got to my dishes or I could live without them. I'm living without them. And doing it quite well, thank you very much!

I'm also shopping for a place to live. With ITSam. And Mac. And sometimes Jack. But that falls under another post... maybe one called Sam Stuff, or something creative like that.

What better than random thoughts on a Monday?

  • I wish I could get Mac to read. Okay, I really wish I could get Mac to do anything but he is in the mode of "summer before senior year and I'm the laziest person on the planet" mode instead. I wish he would read a book for pleasure or work on his college applications or something. I wish he was young enough to do what I told him to do without arguing.
  • I have a pair of shoes I hate. I actually have several pairs. In reality, this particular pair looks like leather but is really plastic and stick to the tops and bottoms of my feet when I wear them. They hurt my feet and toes. And they're ugly. I threw them away yesterday. I haven't parted with shoes voluntarily for years. I really wish I had a comfy pair of summer shoes, a nice black or brown sandal that I could wear but mostly I have heels and flip-flops. Ah, shoe issues.
  • ITSam has his son this weekend and all of this coming week. He's 11, and he's really good at it. I think he likes me but he's really a young 11 years old so while he likes me, I'm learning to adapt to him. That doesn't sound very nice, does it? Well, since I'm not above bribery, I'm going to fix spaghetti for dinner one night this week since it's one of his favorite foods. Way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Does that go for little boys, too?
  • I'm so sick of movies because I'm showing them twice a day at Alcatraz. I don't mind going to the theater but watching DVDs is driving me to tears. But ITSam and I are trying to save money so it's cheap entertainment and easy to do with with each other and our kids. After this summer class I don't care if I ever see another DVD again.
  • This weekend I played Monopoly with Jack and ITSam. I lost. I always lose at Monopoly- always. Because I was behind and was going to get my butt royally kicked again, I teamed up with Jack so he could beat his father. And he did. We bonded. That's good, right?
And I have so dubbed ITSam's son Jack. I like the name. No other reason. His nickname is Spud but I just couldn't go there.

Put on my Pink Dancing shoes

I bought some new pink shoes. Much needed for summer, I thought. And they were on SALE! I just couldn't resist!

Here they are; I referred to them in yesterday's post....

Thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting a wonderful Pink Saturday! And please go visit Nicki at An American in Berlin. She's a great voice; and a cute pink pink bag that I just covet!

I planned around shoes

Okay, I planned what I wanted to wear this week around my shoes. This is a very big deal for me. When I was working at the middle school last school year, I resorted to wearing flats because I went from room to room to room as an aide. I traveled with my kids. And wearing my heels in that atmosphere was not healthy. Oh, not that my feet hurt, but it was rough on my shoes! I was in the hallway during passing period and kids don't watch where they are going so my shoes would get scuffed as THEY tripped over MY feet. Also wearing 3-4 inch heels is treacherous on wet linoleum school floors. It just screams out: BREAK YOUR LEG HERE! So I wore flats, loafers and other practical shoes.

Teaching this summer gig, I thought would be the perfect time to take my heels out for a spin. All the rooms and hallways are carpeted. I'm in the same room from 9am until 230 pm. The only walking I have to do is from my car to my classroom or from my classroom to the cafeteria, if I want to go eat there. But I had to plan outfits that went with the shoes and also meshed well with our HOT weather. I won't bore you with what I wore as far as my clothes, but the shoes... well... that's another story.

So earlier this week I took my new pink satin heels out for a spin (I'm not showing those here because they are my choice for my pink Saturday picture tomorrow!). And then yesterday I wore my red plaid 4 inch ones, and today I dared to wear a pair of shoes that I have a serious past with. My black spongy high soled flip-flops. Insert *bum bum bum* here!

The infamous black spongy flip-flops and I have history. I was dating a Sam many moons ago. We were in his apartment and listening to music. We were dancing. We were fooling around. And the people in the upstairs from us we "makin' whoopee". We were laughing and making fun of them. And then they were getting louder and louder. This Sam was a pretty tall guy and he was tapping or knocking on his ceiling which was their floor, which made the two of us laugh hysterically. So I tried to be funny and jump up to tap the ceiling, too but I'm short Even in these shoes. And when I came down... I landed... wrong... and twisted my ankle. Because the heel was so tall on the shoes.

I landed in a heap on the floor, and my ankle was throbbing and swelling. We were both laughing and crying because I was being so stupid. But Sam ended up having to drive me home and then carry me in the house. And the next couple days I had a wrap and ice bags on it and had to use crutches. All because I was being a dumbass in my big shoes. That was also the weekend I was supposed to meet Sam's kids but I couldn't move around too well, so he brought me roses and a peach smoothie and some kisses. He and I laughed about this for years! He said I didn't have to go to that extreme to NOT meet his kids.

Over the next few years I've worn these shoes rarely. I'm usually careful and respectful of the shoes. I don't want to them to retaliate again. And I try to not be stupid when I wear these shoes.

Gotta respect the soles.

Anyway, I went ahead and wore those to school today. I was careful and didn't do anything crazy. I mostly sat. And the boys in my class thought they were hilarious. They were impressed with how tall these shoes made me. They do have a 3 inch sole...

And I always remember that night with Sam when I wear these! Ah, good times!

Maggie Mae
